Pre and post tan maintenance products you SHOULD be using

Using the right pre and post tan maintenance products is the key to a long lasting spray tan that fades evenly.

So you're bare-bummed and having your glow applied, and your amazing spray tan artist chats with you about what special occasion you have coming up, or that tropical holiday your about to leave for. What they will also mention is your pre and post tan maintenance routine and the products you SHOULD be using. Why do they do this? Because you NEED to take care of your spray tan to get the most out of it!..

Tuscan Tan pH Balanced Skin Wash  Tuscan Tan Tan Maintenance Products

So lets talk about your pre and post tan maintenance routine!

When your spray tan technician is chatting to you about how best to prepare your skin prior to your spray tan application, and how you need to be using the correct body wash and moisturiser afterwards to maintain your tan, it's not to make small talk. She wants you to get the best results from your spray tan.

She'll work her magic and apply your tan to perfection; no streaks, no missed areas, the perfect shade of 'Bali' glow. Then, it's over to you. You hear her say 'blah blah moisturise.... blah blah don't exercise for 24 hours....', but are you really hearing how you can make your tan last up to 10 days and how to avoid that 'cracking' you get as it fades away? Below, we'll teach you about the products you should be using on your skin before and after a tan and why!

Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

Have you ever noticed anyone sporting a fake tan that looks like it's built up in areas causing unsightly patches of dirty looking skin - eek! you don't want to be THAT person do you? So what went wrong? Simple. They didn't exfoliate.

If we've said it once, we'll say it again and again, exfoliate, exfoliate, EXFOLIATE!

The most important thing to do before a spray tan is to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation removes dry skin cells along with any pre existing fake tan, to expose smooth, soft skin ready for your next tanning application. Exfoliation ensure uniform colour development and a longer lasting tan that will fade gradually and evenly.

Also, many exfoliating scrubs contain oils which will act as a barrier and prevent your tan from developing. Tuscan Tan Exfoliating Sugar Scrub is OIL FREE and contains finely milled walnut shell and coconut husk to effectively prepare your skin for a flawless finish.

ph Balanced Skin Wash

This one is equally as important as exfoliation but is often the least understood. To maintain the quality of a professional spray tan or self tan it is vital that your skin is at optimal health. Our skin's pH should sit at around 5.0 - 5.5 and this body wash will help you achieve that. Basic body washes that you pick up from the supermarket are not pH balanced to 5.0 - 5.5. This means they strip your natural oils and leave you feeling dry. Do you always feel dry and desperate to moisturise after a shower? You shouldn't! Move away from those (cheap) body washes and over to a body cleanser that will benefit your skin as well as your tan. Say bye-bye to 'cracking' tans, uneven fade off and tans that lose that cool brown hue.

Use the pH Balanced Skin Wash before you tan to restore your skin's pH. Then sit back and watch how smoothly your tan goes on! Following your tan, use it everyday in the shower. Your skin will be softer, more naturally moisturised and balanced - you'll get back for your buck with your tan - it'll last you so much longer!

Try this body wash and you'll never use anything else when you have a fake tan on. Do you already use is? Head over to the product page and leave a review. Tell us why you love it and how it helps your tan.
Much like when a hairdresser asks you to use a toner or purple shampoo on your blonde locks at home to keep your blonde the perfect tone - tanning is the same; tone your tan! Use ph Balanced Skin Wash for toning.

Tinted Tan Extender

Everyone knows they need to moisturise their skin when they have fake tan on but moisturising with the right product is what's important. It needs to deeply hydrate without being too heavy or oily. Moisturisers that are too heavy or oil based will 'break down' your tan and it will wipe away, shortening the life of your tan. Tuscan Tan's Tinted Tan Extender is formulated to deliver hydration and skin nourishment with lightweight ingredients. Macadamia Nut Oil, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E will keep the skin soft, smooth and supple.

This body moisturiser does more than hydrate and leave your skin plump and dewy. It acts as a BB cream for your body, providing lightweight coverage for minor skin imperfections. Tuscan Tan's famous bronzers provide that delightful coverage and and make your tan 'pop' at the same time. Not only that, it's got mica minerals laced throughout. This will give your skin luminosity, and a subtle dewy sheen.

Lastly, and this is our favourite part - this body cream is great on it's own. When you're not wearing fake tan, pop it on. Feeling a little 'dull'? Tinted Tan Extender. Feeling a bit dry? Tinted Tan Extender. Feel like wearing a skirt but your legs need some love or coverage? Tinted Tan Extender. It extends a tan, but so much more than that too!

Why You Need To Tone Your Tan
Why You Need To Tone Your Tan

Skin and hair are part of the same family. They should be treated equally. It's no secret that spray tans and self applied tans can lose their quality if not maintained correctly. They can change colour, fade unevenly, and appear 'cracked' and patchy. This is from low quality tans or the wrong maintenance at home.

To maintain the quality of your spray tan or self applied tan for the whole time you're wearing it, there are two main rules you need to follow; 'quality of the tanning product' and 'balanced maintenance'.
