I'm too dark!

Put simply, you’re using the wrong formula. If you’re a first time tanner, we recommend visiting a salon- the pro tanning technicians will be able to assess your natural skin tone and choose the perfect shade of tan for you. If you’re applying a DIY tan at home, opt for a gradual self tan formula, like our Gradual Tanning Milk.

I'm Orange!

A great tanning formula will never turn you orange no matter how dark you want to go. Quality DHA (the best comes from France!) formulated in a low dose will ensure you never look orange. It also helps if you choose a tan with a violet base, as it will give you a natural looking tan and counterbalance any unwanted warm tones.

Another helpful hint is to remove any generic body washes and moisturisers from your after care routine. They contain nasties, which can do a number of bad things to your tan, and your skin! Opt for products that are specifically formulated to look after your tan, like our pH Balanced Skin Wash and Tinted Tan Extender.

I'm Patchy!

Fake tans work using DHA. This active tanning ingredient reacts once applied to your skin by turning brown. If you haven’t exfoliated your skin thoroughly prior to tanning, parts of your skin can end up looking darker than others. Give yourself some serious scrub time in the lead up to tanning and your glow will be even from head to toe. We suggest our oil-free Exfoliating Sugar Scrub for perfect tanning.

I’m green!

The key to ensuring your tan fades evenly, rather than flaking off in patches, is to moisturise every day and use a high quality body wash (bye bye supermarket body wash) - especially after tanning! DHA has a slightly drying effect on the skin, so combat this by staying hydrated inside and out. Low quality body washes also strip your skin of it’s natural oils, which can in turn strip your tan unevenly. Keep Tuscan Tan pH Balanced Skin Wash in your shower to use any time you have a spray tan or self tan on. Your bronze glow will fade evenly if your skin is hydrated, and it will last longer!
